What Next? Exploring the Expanded Spiral of the Work that Reconnects for these times (6 sessions over 5 weeks)

You don’t need us to tell you what’s happening in the world right now: you see it and feel it. What may have started about concern about climate change has now become a tangled web of rage, terror and grief as we see the political, social, and psychological converge with the planet’s natural limits.

Some call this the metacrisis or polycrisis: the interconnecting web of crises that intersect and exacerbate each other.

But what can you do?

You’ve learnt the spiral of the Work that Reconnects. You’ve been to grief circles, retreats, sharing circles, perhaps started offering the work yourself. But now, it doesn’t feel enough for the magnitude of what we’re facing, and you often find yourself doubting whether you have anything meaningful left to offer.

You did the work –  right? So, why doesn’t it feel enough… and what’s next?

What Next? is a deep dive into realignment, resilience, and reconnection for those left feeling numb, hopeless or lost as they stare into an unknown future. It’s the next chapter after our popular course “What Now?” from 2021-2024, which has been slowly brewing under the surface for several months.

This is a space for those already on their journey, but who want to go deeper. It’s an invitation back into community with those who “get it”, and – perhaps – a reminder that one spiral doesn’t result in one neatly packaged action that’s easy to implement.

It’s an invitation to connect with the latest changes and updates to the Work that Reconnects, as the network has been shifting and evolving to respond to these times.

We’ll be revisiting the Work that we’re all familiar with, as well as exploring the expanded spiral of the Work that Reconnects. The expanded spiral focuses on social awareness and systems of oppression, dismantling oppressive structures and true liberation for all beings and is, for many, the missing piece that they couldn’t quite put their finger on before.

We’ll also explore other dimensions of what it means to stay whole and grounded these days: somatic work, nervous system regulation, understanding how our bodies work and respond to what’s happening around us, while making sure we separate what’s real from what is social media pseudoscience and spiritual bypassing.

While What Next? is intended for people who have already experienced at least one spiral of the Work that Reconnects, feel free to get in touch if you feel this is the right space for you.

Dates: October 21 and 28, November 4, 11, 18 and 25. Meeting 4-6pm UK time, 9:30-11:30pm IST, 11am-1pm EST (the time change in October can complicate this, please check WorldTimeBuddy.com to be sure, using UK time as the base)

 A little more information:

The Work that Reconnects is a powerful body of work that equips us with tools and resources to help us process the weight of our grief for everything that’s happening in the world, from the climate crisis to wars and injustice. By honouring and holding space for our  despair, we are able to reconnect with our inner wisdom, courage, and sense of belonging, realigning us with ‘what is ours to do’.

“The sorrow, grief, and rage you feel is a measure of your humanity and your evolutionary maturity. As your heart breaks open there will be room for the world to heal.” Joanna Macy

The Work that Reconnects guides us through the “Spiral”, which helps us to face the challenges of the world with new eyes and a sense of rootedness, belonging and energy. The spiral begins with Gratitude - what are we grateful for having witnessed and experienced in this world? Then, we Honour our Pain for the World. All too often we bury and ignore our pain, numbing ourselves because the cost of feeling it is too high. By allowing the pain to speak, we also realise that we are capable of feeling for something far beyond our ‘selves’ as we have come to perceive them. Recognising our interconnectedness to life, we begin to Perceive with New and Ancient Eyes, enabling us to Go Forth into the actions that call to us.

In 2024, the book Coming Together in the Great Turning was published, which contains an updated version of the Work that Reconnects. This includes three new elements of the Spiral as developed by Mutima Imani: self-awareness, systems of oppression, and liberation. We invite you to join us as we explore these elements and to feed into the ongoing evolution of the Work.

About Us:

Gwyneth Jones is a facilitator and coach navigating the place where Deep Adaptation, climate change, psychology and earth-based spirituality meet. She has recently returned to her homeland of North Wales after heeding the call of the land. Gwyneth teaches, writes, and holds spaces for processing our emotions around the metacrisis.

Shayontoni Rhea Ghosh is a multi-disciplinary artiste and a facilitator of healing space. She lives and works in Hyderabad, India; and is inspired by water, light, clouds and dogs. She approaches gnosis as a dedicated and earnest student, and is driven by the wish to build an accessible infrastructure for community care.

After facilitating workshops and courses around the Work that Reconnects together over the last five years, they have created Banduri, a partnership whose mission is to create spaces of connection and healing and provide quality resources for navigating the Great Turning. We support people in tapping into their wisdom and resilience, connecting with their full selves, and living authentically to thrive as much as possible in the great unravelling.

Testimonials for What Now - the forerunner to this course, 2021-2024

This course was maybe the best Zoom course I've taken. The facilitators did an excellent job of designing a space that was as in-person and community centered as possible. Each session was valuable on the level of providing community, intellectual learning, and experiential exercises that helped me embody the learning. I feel like this course helped me process my emotions around climate and gave me tools to continue to do so for myself and others”. -May Bartlett

This class was really important for me to touch into the feelings that I have been having about climate change (and the systemic problems that have caused it). It was so important to be able to get to hear others and to share with others my thoughts and feelings. I feel much more sane now and have more tools to help myself function in this world.” Participant, May 2022

“I needed this course to dive more deeply into my own current experience and awareness of my Gratitude and Pain for the World AND was graced with a wider lens through which to come more fully alive in this crazy, wild world. I also gained inspiration to become more imaginative and future oriented, going forth with a (slightly) better glimpse of "the more beautiful world we know is possible". Many valuable resources were shared: the Joanna Macy videos were essential pre-work for this course; Gwyneth's and Shayantoni's added resources were VERY timely, relevant and broadened/deepened our learning via connections to Gwyneth's blog, Deep Adaptation, EQ, other ancestry and systemic thinking sources. These made the course unique among other offerings of the WTR.” Participant, October 2022

Other testimonials of Gwyneth and Shayontoni’s offerings:

“I truly love the way Shayontoni and Gwyneth bring themselves into the circle and how they trust the wisdom of the circle to be the wise teacher. There is a real sense of mutual respect and honouring of each person's contribution.”
